OVERAY DESK is a VR workspace app for Meta Quest, PICO, Galaxy XR, and PC. It ships tuned starting presets that put users into a working layout in under a minute. Every layout parameter stays adjustable afterward: screen size, curve, position, and virtual screen count up to five. Virtual screens stack with your existing physical monitors. This post looks at how the layout system works and who it serves best.
Start with a preset
When you open OVERAY DESK, you pick a starting layout from the preset panel. The presets range from one to five virtual monitors, with default distances and angles set up to keep you comfortable across long sessions. Pick the one closest to your task, click Apply, and you are in.
Made your own arrangement? Save it as a Custom Preset. It appears in the same panel and applies with one click the next time.
Default distances and angles were chosen for sustained comfort over a long session, not for what looks impressive in a screenshot. Most users are working within a minute of opening the app.
Tune every parameter
Each preset is a starting point, not a floor. From any preset, OVERAY DESK exposes:
- Screen size and curve: adjust each screen independently, flat or curved around your view
- Position: distance from you, hinge angle to neighboring screens, vertical placement
- Layout style: Snap Grid for clean alignment between screens, or Display Board for a single curved surface
- Screen count: up to five virtual screens, in addition to any physical monitors you already have
A concrete example. A developer starts on a three-screen preset. After a week, they realize their actual workflow is two editor windows, a terminal, and an always-open chat window. They move the chat above the main field of view, narrow the terminal into a tall sidebar, and curve the two editor screens slightly toward each other.
None of those changes required a dedicated workflow feature. They were simply made possible by flexible layout controls.
Most users start with a preset and gradually customize their workspace as their preferences evolve.
Who this serves best
OVERAY DESK is built for users who plan to work in VR for hours at a time and expect their layout preferences to develop over the first few days. The presets get you working immediately. The controls are there when you want them.
If your only criterion is “fewest options on screen” (open the app, accept a fixed layout, never touch it again), pick a preset at first launch and stick with it. The controls only appear when you edit a screen.
For everyone else, OVERAY DESK is designed to grow with you: start with a tuned preset, save your own arrangements as Custom Presets along the way, and shape the workspace over time into something built around how you work.
